Until recently, international flights to North Cyprus were only via Turkey, with connections to all the major international airlines and destinations. However, since the Republic of (South) Cyprus joined the EU in May 2004, the green line between the North and the South side of the island is open for EU passport holders, so North Cyprus is much more accessible for EU citizens than in the past. You can now travel to North Cyprus’ Ercan airport on one of the daily scheduled flights from the UK or other major European capitals, as well as from the major cities of Turkey.
North Cyprus can also be reached by a regularly scheduled car ferry service running between Mersin, Turkey and Famagusta. Those wanting to travel with their own car can make the trip in 4 days from London, and there are also several bus services travelling between The UK and North Cyprus. Citizens of the European Union nations, the United States and Canada, and several other nations are not required to arrange a visa to North Cyprus in advance. One will be issued at the airport upon arrival in Cyprus.
